About

Welcome to Sea Kist – a shop selling antiques and curios in South Queensferry, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland. I’m Jenni Meldrum and I’ve run the business for around 20 years.

I offer a fine selection of:

  • model ships;
  • gurgle jugs / gluggle jugs;
  • ships in bottles;
  • nautical artwork and pictures;
  • shells;
  • plates;
  • vintage books and postcards;
  • costume jewellery (vintage and more modern);
  • teapots; and
  • china.

If you love the sea, you’ll find plenty of inspiration inside the store. There are also lots of other tempting finds for “landlubbers”!

The shop sells lots of martime-related curios as well as other antiques.

A sea kist, in case you didn’t know, was a chest containing precious items for seafarers. And we have lots of precious items and amazing things to share with you.

Check out our gallery for a look inside the shop – or come along for a visit in person.

I offer a range of goods which it would be difficult to find elsewhere. This may appeal to people who collect certain items, or people who are looking for something a bit different to decorate their homes or even give as a gift.

Most items are affordable. There is also a “green” aspect to the goods in the shop. They have been pre-owned and cared for so there is no large scale manufacturing involved so it’s another means of re-cycling and being kind to the planet!

Sea Kist sells a range of eye-catching costume and vintage jewellery.

Sea Kist is located at the heart of South Queensferry, a fine historic burgh on the south shore of the Firth of Forth. It’s packed with lovely independent shops, boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants.

The town has a long established link to the sea and sea faring. Many of the fine old houses were built by wealthy shipowners and merchants. Ships were built in Queensferry until the late 17th century, while smaller craft would ferry travelers across the Forth to Fife.

I am keenly interested in local history, am active in the Queensferry History Group and also was a researcher for a book on “The Briggers” – the men who built the Forth (Rail) Bridge.
